Some things don’t need much elaboration. And while the Jovian spirit isn’t one of simplicity, rose oil is such an unmistakeable icon of scent that we decided to take a back seat and let the flower do the talking. Yes, we used two different species of rose absolutes; the fluttery wave of lush pink air, rose de mai, and the deep crystal laser beam of raspberry nectar mystery, damascus rose. But the fresh spring air of bergamot and the complex library of herbs and spices seem to merely boost the holographic rosiness of it all. They balance, deepen, and warm the oil until it begins feigning glamorous ambiguity: like most icons, in costume it becomes still more thoroughly itself. If you thought roses were for your beloved (or problematic) grandma, the transparent, un-sweet Rose Lab might prove you wrong, though it wanted me to tell you that it doesn’t much care what you think.
